Happy Canada Day, I

From 1925.

The melodramatic, black armband wearing, nationalist-romantics who are drowning their 58-year-old sorrows in a politically correct beverage this evening, must remember one thing: Don't ask Labradorians to mourn for a nationhood you never shared with them or their ancestors.

Vive le Canada!

Labrador Fishermen 100 P.C. Strong
For Confederation, Says Dr. Grenfell

(Canadian Press Despatch)

Vancouver, B.C., June 1.—Confederation with the Dominion of Canada, as a means of solving some of Labrador's chief problems, was advocated today by Dr. W.T. Grenfell, of Labrador fame, who arrived here from the Orient after a trip around the world, during which he studied conditions and problems of fisher folk.

"I have come to this conclusion," he said, "after talking and living with the fishermen of the Labrador coast. They are 100 per cent. strong for confederation, and it is my personal opinion that Labrador would be better off as part of the big country. At present, 3,000 fishermen on the coast are without a vote in any country."

Wow . . . Is anyone even reading this bull? I'll be the first to comment on your post in ages, probably the first to read it, and still no one cares . . .

But I'll bite and help you feel needed . . .

You're saying that Labradorians (100% ??? TOTAL Crap!) would rather have a more centralist, more distant government to deal with over St. John's? Come on, b'y, I thought you were still whiping Paul Martin's Arse, didn't you take his advice the other fall? The LESSER of two evils!

Labrador will have more say in Newfoundland than it ever will in Canada. Fight the real fight instead of trying to cut everyone down! Else you will prove, as you have to date, that you are a coward who wants nothing to change except all Islanders to shut up. Well, I don't want you to shut up, I want you to do better for your people instead of being a yes-man for the country's most corrupt party.

We love thee frozen land!

No, you are definitely not.

Ottawa vs. St. John's?

Ottawa.

And Ottawa is closer to much of Labrador than St. John's is. Seriously.

"More centralist"?

Measured how?

How is the federal government more "centralist" than the provincial government? In your answer, you may wish to make reference to the fact that the federal government is the general government of a federal country; whereas the provincial government is the government of a unitary province.

Labrador will have more say in Newfoundland than it ever will in Canada.

Did it before?

Does it now?

What is the basis for your prediction of the future?

you are a coward who wants nothing to change except all Islanders to shut up.

No, I want "Islanders" (I assume you mean Newfoundlanders) to finally start treating Labrador in the way they demand to be treated by everyone else.

We love thee frozen land!

Typical Newfoundland nationalist.

You distinguish between "we" and "thee".

Who's "we"?

Who's "thee"?

I want you to do better for your people instead of being a yes-man for the country's most corrupt party.

Be nice. Seriously. I'm going to disallow further comments from you anyway, until you enable viewing of your profile. Once you do that, I will only allow nice comments. I am the final and sole arbiter of what is "nice".
