Assentator Emeritus (II)

Over the protestations of the wag who thought it was superfluous giving it to a sitting PC MHA, the second awarding of the title Assentator Emeritus goes to the Hon. Member for Humber Valley, Mr. Kelly, who spouted this gem late on Tuesday evening:
Over the Easter Break, I visited the other Maritime Provinces and spent a few days down in the United States. When I visited some of the people in the Maritimes in particular, in the Province of New Brunswick, they were so impressed about this government and the job that they were doing. Some of them said that they wished that Premier Danny Williams was the Premier of their province. That is what they told me.

I love these claims.

It's like the ones from people claiming that - while they are supposedly totally unconnected to the province's tourism program - they get these totally spontaneous orgasmic gushes of love for the province's toruism campaign.

Normal people outside Canada would not be able to even tell you where NL is let alone name the Premier. As for the NS'ers and NB'ers, the people who gave us Rodney and Richard, might understand if some of us questioned their political judgment.

People who gave Frank McKenna a sweep of the legislature aren't known for their smart political choices.

But this award is a great idea: this sort of unashamed ass licking should be ridiculed.

Richard Hatfield had many moments of lucidity and competence.

It all ended in dust of course, but in between he managed to do a great deal of good, not least of which, shedding his Conservatives of their historical baggage on Acadian and francophone affairs. New Brunswick and its politics is a better place for it.

I think the shade of Richard Hatfield can proudly put his record up against that of Danny Williams, any day.
