Peeve du jour (III)

The Telegram headline writer scribbled this morning:

Kruger to shutdown production at Corner Brook mill for two weeks

And at the Ministry of Truth (Provincial), they report:
Gadhafi to Stopover in the Province

Nope.

“Shutdown” is a noun. “Shut down” is the phrasal verb. Kruger is planning a shutdown. Kruger is planning to shut down.

“Stopover” is a noun. “Stop over” is the phrasal verb. Gadhafi is planning a stopover. Gadhafi is planning to stop over.
