VOCM reports:
Premier Danny Williams says he is opposed to introducing online gambling in the province. On VOCM Open Line with Randy Simms Wednesday morning, the Premier said when the idea is brought before cabinet, he will vote against it. According to the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, $50-million in potential revenue is currently flowing out of the province via online gambling websites. Williams says the taxes that are in place to generate revenue from alcohol and tobacco sales are already enough.Meanwhile, VOCM reports:

"From my perspective I'll be voting against it. It's not going to happen," Williams told VOCM Radio Thursday.
Government-sponsored Internet casino gambling does not appear to be in the cards for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Williams first threw cold water on the plan during an open-line radio appearance earlier in the day.
"Newfoundland and Labrador's position, if Atlantic Lotto wants to do that here in this province, then from my perspective, it's not going to happen," Williams said on VOCM.

Just out of curiosity, what could the Premier do to prevent Atlantic Lotto (or BC Lotto, or OLG) from having its ineternt sites accessed locally? Really? Maybe an enterprising reporter could ask him that simple question.
I share the Premier's distaste for addictive forms of gambling, but he can't possibly pretend to be on the verge of policing the internet.
(Maybe he'll punish whoever had a hand in bringing the Internet to Newfoundland.)
On the bright side, the Premier almost uttered a compound sentence with proper grammar. That is newsworthy.
He also used both of the phrases "Newfoundland & Labrador's position" and "from my perspective" which I always thought were redundant in his universe.
You would almost think the man is an autocrat .
