The party is open

Good ol' John Babb opened up The Party's nomination in Humber West today at noon, and will close it on Monday at noon, thereby generously giving one business afternoon and one business morning for contenders to get their paperwork in.

Four of the past five PC nominations, this one included, have opened on Friday to close on Monday.

None of the by-election nominations since the last general election has been longer than two business days or three calendar ones.

Good ol' John Babb also helpfully tells you that, in the very likely event of a contested nomination, "Voters are reminded to have two pieces of I.D., one of which must include a street address and picture."

"Voters". Not "PC Party members". After all, there is no such a thing, except when there is.

Are the rules that saw Cabana being put throught the hoops , the same that will apply to the five nominees ?

50 signatures and a cheque for $5000.00 dollars .

Or did Brad Cabana get the "screw you " deal ?

If memory serves from earlier the week, under the PC Party constitution, only district association members are permitted to vote in these contests.

In practice, the party defines these as any eligible voter in the district.

Logically, that would make all voters to be members of the district association.

As such, Cabana only needed the signatures of 50 people in the province to vote, if one reads the constitution in plain English.

As for the definition of party member, therefore, there is something of a gap between what the party just decided and what the party decided to do in Humber West.

I should think each of the four defeated candidates can challenge every single voter based on the membership requirements alone.

Next week could be fun voting, especially if there is a close race.

We’ve had four calls asking that we pledge our support for a certain candidate. Does that mean we can vote? We certainly have the right address.

The Western Star did a straw poll today , that looked something like this :

If you were a Danny Williams supporter , are you less likely to vote PC now ?

Yeas 46%

Nays 40%

I am more likely to vote PC :

14%

A reporter from CBC suggested that there was "strong" support for the PCs in the area .

So there you have it .

There you have a problem with English, most likely Ursula.

46% of the respondents apparently said they are now LESS likely to vote PC.

That would weaker support for the PCs even if it still was "strong".

Ed , I am not sure who has the problem with English , but , I had to read the question twice . It was like something out of a Shakespearean play .

Was this intentional , who knows ?

46% were "less" likely , while 14% were "more" likely .

The point I so badly tried to make is that , 46% have no time for the PCs . But, we all know how reliable polls are .

It was probably just a poll to find out readership numbers for the Star .

As long as you are voting for the chosen candidate, yes.
